Companies involved in the process of certification were those along Sandy Beach, including Las Palomas Beach & Golf Resort

Beside the beautiful sea, sand and clear blue sky, Puerto Penasco -also known as Rocky Point -has a lot to offer to its tourists by also being a place that cares about the environment and sustainability

In recent days, The Mexican Institute of Standardization and Certification recently acknowledged Puerto Peñasco’s Sandy Beach as the longest Level II recreational sustainable beach in the country. This means that, in addition to offering safety and peace to beachgoers, it also encourages society to comply with regulations while keeping Sandy Beach clean, along with all others throughout Puerto Peñasco.

To achieve this Level II certification, teamwork has been essential on the process. This includes environmental groups, civil society and schools, along with local government and business leaders from resorts in Sandy Beach, including Las Palomas Beach & Golf Resort.

The certified sustainable beach stretches 1522 meters along Sandy Beach, and is only surpassed by a Level III beach in Tamaulipas.  Sandy Beach is currently the only certified clean beach in Sonora

Marcia Ortega Morales and Luis Cesar García of the local Clean Beaches Committee were presented with the certificate acknowledging Puerto Peñasco’s Level II sustainable clean beach certification. At the gathering, the two Clean Beach Committee members also presented a talk on the success of regulations when working toward sustainable beach certification in Puerto Peñasco.
